About
My Practice

I paint landscapes in a contemporary and minimalist style, preferring to emphasise unnatural colours from human-made objects and light sources in contrast with organic shapes.
My painting style is very graphic, utilising fluid and regular acrylic paints with various types of matte medium to create a stain-like finish with no visible brushstrokes. My goal in presenting these landscapes is to prompt the viewer to reflect on our collective impact on the natural environment.
I'm drawn to landscapes that are desolate, wildly beautiful and often inhospitable.

Beginning her career in digital media over two decades ago, Nichola lived and worked in London, spending almost every weekend in The Tate Modern, The National Gallery, The White Cube and other galleries. Picking up a paintbrush for the first time at the start of the pandemic, Nichola quickly developed an abstract expressionist practice and is now a Master of Arts Practice, having studied at The Northern School of Art in Hartlepool, UK.
